Like games such as Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, Dwarf Fortress, and other roguelikes, though especially NetHack (which is renowned as the grandfather of every roguelike and video game RPG that exist), this game will eat you, chew you, spit you out, set you on fire, and then stomp on you and that’s on a good day. There are many classes to choose, and I would recommend this to anyone who likes dungeon crawlers and roguelikes. But, as comes with difficult games, you get a great feeling of satisfaction when beating it. This is a difficult game with almost no hand holding. Just comes with the territory! Each death you’ll learn something new and how you enjoy playing the game and there are many different ways to tackle a situation! Cooperate with 1-4 players via split-screen, wireless play between Switch consoles, and the internet including crossplay with other platforms! It’s an amazing game, That said You will die a LOT. Been playing this game since it were greenlit. This game is well worth it at full price or on sale and the dlc is worth it too. The devs put a lot of love and passion into this game even though it never really caught on and must be a massive money sink given the amount of work and passion they have put into this project. The game also has Steam Workshop support so mods are very much on the table. The game even includes split screen co op now and was ported to other systems. I have done multiple 4 player runs and while runs can take a very long time, it is worth it. The game is good, if not really punishing, in singleplayer, but the game shines in multiplayer. You could play a bog standard human, a skeleton who has no need to eat food, a bug person, or a succubus who focuses on charming enemies to form an army. Speaking of, Barony has a multitude of classes and races to choose from. Skilled players will listen for the rumble of a boulder trap triggering, not pester enemies holding magic staffs, or use the advantages a certain class or race can give you. ![]() Put your skills to the test with perma-death, cryptic dungeons, and no handholding We’re talking boulder traps that can kill you instantly, enemies you cannot take on at a low level appearing in the first floors, chain reactions that can result your death after pulling a lever, and much more. If you are not paying attention to the environment, enemies, sound queues, and your mini map, this game can and will punish you. Word of warning though, this game adores killing the player. You delve into randomly generated dungeons looking for gear and the entrance to the next level. The game takes place in a seemingly typical fantasy setting.
